Marqo, an AI-powered search and discovery startup based in Melbourne, Australia, has raised US$5.2 million in seed funding.
The round was led by Blackbird Ventures, with participation from Creator Fund, January Capital, and Cohere's co-founders, Ivan Zhang and Aidan Gomez.
Marqo will use the funds to scale its existing cloud service and build search technology that learns from user engagement to continuously improve relevance.
The company was founded by Jesse Clark and Tom Hamer, and it offers an end-to-end, multimodal vector search engine that uses machine learning models to return more accurate search results by understanding content and meaning. Users can search using text, images, or a combination of both.
Marqo's technology is initially targeting end-user search (ecommerce, marketplaces), but it has applications in generative AI, analytics, and security.
