DetraPel, a Boston-based materials company that manufactures sustainable coatings, has raised $7.6 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Material Impact, with participation from INX International, Touchdown Ventures, FitzGate Ventures, Boro Capital, Icebook Investments, and others. Adam Sharkawy, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Material Impact, will be joining the DetraPel board of directors starting in July 2023. DetraPel will use the funds to build on the market traction of its recently rebranded industrial arm, Impermea Materials. The company has also rebranded its consumer operations to ProofPlus.
Impermea Materials provides various industries, including paper & paperboard packaging, textiles, healthcare, and more, with products for everyday use. Its patented protective coatings are made from PFAS-free and fluorine-free, bio-based chemistries. The barrier coatings are being produced at scale and address the complex challenges facing businesses around product performance, while also addressing environmental concerns by maintaining recyclability, repulpability, and compostability. Current industrial customers include large paper suppliers and consumer packaged goods companies.
